Major Interchanges
Top image - I-270 North and Lindbergh Interchange, removing loop ramps and building a new interchange with traffic signals at the on- and off-ramps.
Bottom image - I-270 North at Route 367 Interchange, replacing three loop ramps with new geometrics to enhance traffic flow and safety. The new ramp from eastbound I-270 to northbound Route 367 will have two lanes.

Current Challenges
This project is working to address several concerns along the corridor: traffic congestion, aging infrastructure, lack of facilities for non-motorized users, and outdated cross-over slip ramps.

Western limit of the I-270 North Project at James S. McDonnell Boulevard where Dunn Road will be resurfaced. The blue arrows show the direction of traffic flow.

Strip Map 2 of 10
The Lindbergh Interchange will be reconfigured to improve traffic flow and provide access to Dunn Road. Dunn Road will be continuous through the Lindbergh Interchange. A lane will be added to I-270 in both directions, from west of Lindbergh to Route 367. The blue arrows show the direction of traffic flow.

Strip Map 3 of 10
The slip ramp from Dunn Road to westbound I-270 will be improved with a roundabout; giving access for both directions of Dunn Road. Both Dunn and Pershall Road will be converted to a one-way outer road system east of the Hanley/Graham Interchange. The blue arrows show the direction of traffic flow.

Strip Map 4 of 10
The New Florissant and Washington/Elizabeth Interchanges will be reconstructed to improve traffic flow. The New Florissant bridge will be replaced and will include pedestrian facilities under I-270. Pershall Road will be extended between New Florissant and Washington/Elizabeth to make Pershall Road a continuous outer road from Lindbergh to east of Old Halls Ferry. A new u-turn bridge at Washington/Elizabeth allows free-flow travel from Pershall to Dunn Road. A new multi-use path will be constructed along both outer roads for non-motorized travel. The blue arrows show the direction of traffic flow.

Strip Map 5 of 10
The reconstructed West Florissant Interchange includes a new u-turn bridge at West Florissant allows free-flow travel from Pershall to Dunn Road. Pershall improvements include access for Metro buses from the North County Transit Center to West Florissant and the Florissant Valley Community College. A new multi-use path will be constructed along both outer roads for non-motorized travel. The blue arrows show the direction of traffic flow.

Reconstructing the Old Halls Ferry and New Halls Ferry interchanges to improve traffic flow. The New Halls Ferry bridge will be replaced and will include pedestrian facilities under I-270. Dunn Road transitions from two-way to one-way at Linnell Drive. Pershall Road transitions from one-way to two-way at Old Halls Ferry. The blue arrows show the direction of traffic flow.

Strip Map 7 of 10
A new bridge will connect Pershall and Dunn Roads over I-270, west of Route 367. The Route 367 Interchange will be improved with dual lane directional ramps from southbound Route 367 to westbound I-270 and eastbound I-270 to northbound Route 367. The blue arrows show the direction of traffic flow.

Strip Map 8 of 10
The off- and on-ramps at Bellefontaine will be reconfigured utilizing a roundabout west of Bellefontaine. This design replaces the at-grade crossover slip-ramp east of Bellefontaine.

Strip Map 9 of 10
Westbound I-270 to northbound Lindbergh and southbound Lindbergh to westbound I-270 traffic will no longer need to go through the Taylor/Lynn Haven intersection. The blue arrows show the direction of traffic flow.

These are additional construction impacts for the I-270 North Project. Additional required detour maps will be developed closer to closure dates.
Chat with the I-270 North Team
Thank you for your participation in our Live Chat. Following are answers to your questions.
Work is anticipated to begin on the Lindbergh Interchange in June 2020 and continue through November 2022. There will be numerous closures scheduled throughout this time frame for various movements around Lindbergh, Dunn, I-270, Pershall, Taylor/Lynn Haven, and the ramps. MoDOT and our contractor will provide a minimum of 2 week notice of any closure via the media and digital boards near the work. Work impacting mainline I-270 will begin in April 2020, and short length and short duration lane shifts will be the predominant impact throughout the construction schedule through December 2023. These shifts are necessary to build piers for new bridges over I-270, add an additional lane to the outside of I-270 or reconstruct the I-270 bridges over cross street. Three through lanes in each direction will be open on I-270 for all rush hours. Lanes may be closed during non-peak for activities such as resurfacing I-270 or providing extra space for certain activities of the above work. Additionally, I-270 will have four weekend closures for demolishing bridges over I-270 at Lindbergh, Washington/Elizabeth, West Florissant, and Old Halls Ferry.
There will be no direct impacts to the Summer Run Condos. Dunn Road is being converted to one-way westbound between West Florissant and Washington/Elizabeth. A multi-use path will be added to the north side of Dunn. All work will done on land MoDOT already owns.
Yes. Southbound 367 to eastbound I-270 and northbound 367 to westbound I-270 will have to make left turns in front of traffic. Traffic signals will be installed, and the left turns will only be allowed to happen when the opposite direction traffic is stopped.
Dunn Road will be relocated slightly to the north and new multi-use path will be added to the north side of Dunn. MoDOT will need to purchase a small strip of land from the Dunn Road side of the properties mentioned. The width of the strip varies depending on the particular propery. Temporary construction easements would also be needed to reconstruct driveways tieing into Dunn Road. Additionally, the entrance to the ramp will also be moved to the east of Santa Cruz Drive. Access to the ramp will no longer be available from Santa Cruz Drive.
